Interpreters help spread the word for mayoral candidates

Immigrants hear from candidates

By Dan Klepal; March 8, 2010

The Americana Center in the Beechmont neighborhood is where Louisville comes to meet the world. But on Monday night, it was the place where the world met Louisville's mayoral candidates. In what is believed to have been the first multilingual mayoral forum in Louisville's history, the center sponsored the event that featured eight of the 14 candidates.....

At the Americana Center, the last question the candidates were asked was how they can help Louisville residents become more familiar and welcoming to the international community, or “build a bridge in the other direction” between the two. (Democratic candidate Jim) King said he'd like to build two bridges, referring to the plans in the Ohio River Bridges Project. (Independent candidate Jackie) Green received the biggest round of applause when he said the city needs a world-class public transportation system before building any bridges.
